BILLIE BLACK LONG WAY TO GO

We’re simply in awe of the cinematic splendour that is ‘Long Way To Go’, the closing number from Billie Black’s three-track release The Last Time EP. Speaking about the EP as a whole, the British talent tells us: “It’s about passion and desire. Letting your heart lead your head and not the other way round. Pursuing a love that you know isn’t good for you but that you can’t seem to let go.  About learning to be vulnerable and finding a certain strength in that”. While all three tracks are brilliant, it’s ‘Long Way To Go’ that has our attention fixed. A menagerie of atmospheric trip-hop beats, delicate keys, sustained synths and twinkling xylophone - it’s a truly captivating look within. Between the reimagined jazz, electronica and Middle Eastern scales, it’s Billie Black’s voice that’s the constant thread. As she contests throughout, “it’s my heart, my love,” and thus it’s only she who can truly understand and make judgement. Love is a mysterious thing indeed, and sometimes, as Billie Black explores, we have to take the long way around in order to find it. - Hannah Thacker
